User,    This week we are looking at fun ways to play your music and films on your TV. There are plenty of boxes on the market from all the major players - Seagate, WD, Thecus, Qnap The WD TV range are great value for money as they don't require an internal Hard Drive - you can plug any USB drive or key into the USB port. The Seagate FreeAgent Theater is similar, and also has a dedicated slot for a USB FreeAgent Go external drive. In the higher ranges, both Qnap and Thecus do media streaming boxes, which can hold internal drive(s). The Qnap can only take one but the Thecus can take 3, which can be RAIDed together to make one huge volume. Most of these boxes support any file formats you can throw at them but please check in the specs before buying - the manufacturers often release updated firmware to allow new codecs/formats to be played. One great feature to look out for on any of these devices is the LAN connection - this will allow you to connect to your home network and see media on shared drives on any of your computers!
