General Performance

The DX1215 same as the RS2418+ is made by Synology. People often choose Synology because of user friendly interface as well as being suited for Mac and Windows based environments. It is relatively easy to set up and use, and those who are new to Network Attached Storage are advised to go for the Synology. Unlike the RS2418+ this box has the N/A processor. The DX1215 RAM compared with RS2418+ 4GB is clearly weaker.

About Connections

About Usage

As there are no LAN ports, you probably know this is DAS (directly attached storage) box. Sometimes more than anything we need speed! If you have chosen right drives for your DX1215 box, you can expect the best performance whilst you are editing your videos or working with graphics. Only disadvantage with DAS boxes, is data sharing capabilities, compared with NAS functionality.

Price And Warranty

This box comes with staggering 5 year warranty for your peace of mind and long term hardware security. This Synology is £662.00 cheaper than the most expensive unit RS2418+.

Synology RS2418+ PROS

designThe design is a hard thing to judge as this is a rackmount NAS, however, it is a very sleek and well maintained (internally) device. Excellent internal cooling and fantastic ventilation.
featuresUnless you want to deal with 4K media, this NAS can do everything you will need for business. Thanks to a combination of solid hardware and great 1st party apps from Synology such as Chat, Calendar, Drive, Office, Moments and more. As well as great CRM and CMS systems.
performanceThe performance of this rackmount NAS is great for your business file server use, large-scale surveillance, VM hosting is pretty good. Plus the software is updated regularly and all apps are frequently improved. Plus you can use up to 4 LAN ports to effectively quadruple your read/write speeds with link aggregation
valueIt is a little steep in price when compared with a QNAP Rackmount of the same hardware, but the software on this device more than makes up for this shortfall. I recommend this device just based on the enterprise use of DSM 6.2
Synology RS2418+ CONS

designOnly a single PCIe expansion slot, which is a shame as you will need to choose between 10Gbe connectivity or SSD caching with upgrading with the M2D17 and M2D18 - bit of a shame.
featuresThe Intel Atom 3000 based CPU will seem a little underpowered for some.
performanceA lack of 10Gbe as standard and that CPU mean that you may hit an internal bottleneck when it comes to editing big files on the NAS.
valueIf you are using 3rd party software and need the NAS for it's hardware, then this may be a little too expensive for your requirements.

General Performance

The RS2418+ same as the DX1215 is made by Synology. People often choose Synology because of user friendly interface as well as being suited for Mac and Windows based environments. It is relatively easy to set up and use, and those who are new to Network Attached Storage are advised to go for the Synology. This model comes with new DDR4 technology random access memorty (RAM). DDR3 used to work at 800 MT/s (or Millions of Transfers per second) and some went as high as 2133. DDR4, starts at 2133 MHz. The increased speed means an overall increase in bandwidth. Unlike the DX1215 this box has the Intel Atom C3538 Quad Core 2.1GHz processor. With its ATOM processor, this box should have no trouble transcoding your videos up to 720P via the native MANUFACTURER apps.

About Connections

With four LAN ports this box is making good enterprise level NAS. Two USB3 ports on this Synology is offering you up to 5Gb/s transfer speeds of external devices. It is fast enough to get your files through fairly quickly with this speed and make backing up with an external drive or Apple Time Machine a quick and easy process. Sometimes when your business grows, you might consider getting a box with expansion capabilities. With this box you have all opportunities to do so. You might want to contact one of our tech guys to find out more.

About Usage

With 12 bay unit you are having additional advantages. You can choose from number of RAID solutions to set up. There could be RAID that saves your data even if one of the drives fail so you can still recover your data. This would be slightly more safe option to keep your data. Besides you can still access your documents or media files over your private network or even internet. You may install Plex Media Server on this box. Plex lets you easily create a feature rich and practical home media playback system. Some boxes offer real time transcoding functionality. That let you stream your media hustle free, based on your device speed or screen size. Please contact us to find transcoding compatibility list.

Price And Warranty

This box comes with 3 year warranty for your peace of mind and long term hardware security. Despite DX1215 has better warranty, it is still good to know that you have your three years of no worries manufacturer cover. This is the most expensive box with the price tag £1,424.00.
