General Performance

The N12850 same as the N12910 is made by Thecus. A lesser known manufacturer that Synology or QNAP, there always other brands out there like Thecus which are often innovative if less user-friendly to those without experience of a NAS device. You might not get the same user experience comparing with other better known brands. But sometimes you might not need it. Unlike the N12910 this box has the Intel® Xeon E3-1231 v3 3.4GHz Processor + Intel C224 chipset processor. This box has Xeon processor. These processors usually are used in solutions where you cannot afford even shortest downtime. They usually come with biggest cache size. If processor comes with ECC (Error detection and correction) technology, it prevents server ever to go offline. Useful for accounting or bidding systems with no place for error. Another key difference between the N12910 is RAM. N12850 arrives with 16GB RAM. The N12850 16GB RAM compared with N12910 8GB DDR4 is clearly weaker.

About Connections

At the back of the box you will find HDMI port which will let you connect it to TV or monitor. In this case you are not limited to network speeds. With four LAN ports this box is making good enterprise level NAS. Two USB3 ports on this Thecus is offering you up to 5Gb/s transfer speeds of external devices. It is fast enough to get your files through fairly quickly with this speed and make backing up with an external drive or Apple Time Machine a quick and easy process. Sometimes when your business grows, you might consider getting a box with expansion capabilities. With this box you have all opportunities to do so. You might want to contact one of our tech guys to find out more.

About Usage

With 12 bay unit you are having additional advantages. You can choose from number of RAID solutions to set up. There could be RAID that saves your data even if one of the drives fail so you can still recover your data. This would be slightly more safe option to keep your data. Besides you can still access your documents or media files over your private network or even internet. You may install Plex Media Server on this box. Plex lets you easily create a feature rich and practical home media playback system. Some boxes offer real time transcoding functionality. That let you stream your media hustle free, based on your device speed or screen size. Please contact us to find transcoding compatibility list.

PLEX TRANSCODING

This NAS feature Intel® Xeon E3-1231 v3 3.4GHz Processor + Intel C224 chipset processor which will let you transcode videos on the PLEX. This will allow you to watch videos remotely from anywhere you can connect to the internet. The i3 CPU will transcode all HD and Full HD videos including quite few 4K videos. The i5 and i7 will pretty much transcode any video you want. The difference will be the number of simultaneous streams. The i7 obviously can cope with more streams than i5.

Price And Warranty
