Hard Drives for Media and Entertainment Devices

From your SkyBox to your Playstation, most modern Entertainment devices arrive with some form of digital storage installed.

However all too quickly the space available begins to deplete. Due to clever design by the manufacturers or with the increase of digital media in general, the majority of devices can have a new hard drive installed to increase the available level of storage exponentially.

Upgrading your available Digital Storage can benefit you in a vast number of ways. Never forget though that all devices are different and that you should always check with the manufacturer that the drive you have in mind is compatible or will not invalidate your warranty. Use the capacity choices below to help you decide on which drive is right for your media needs.

Drives are available from as little as 120GB, however we would recommend starting at 1 Terabyte of storage. The majority of feature films in 720p or 1080p will start at 2-4GB in size, and with 4K around the corner starting at 4-8GB per feature film, it is worth planning ahead.

Whether the Hard Drive is compatible with your media device is something you should always consider. The majority of Home Media devices that connect directly to your TV via HDMI utilise 3.5" SATA Hard Disks, above 5400RPM and will not require an additional cables. There are some exceptions to this in the form of the modern console generation (Playstation & Xbox) which insist upon 2.5" hard drives.
