Qnap Desktop NAS TS 251+ 8G reviews
Can I start with a single drive, and add a second one later?
18/12/2020 | Guest
Yes, you can migrate from a single drive to a protected RAID-1 mirror, or a risky RAID-0. In either case, we recommend that you use exactly the same make and model of drive.
Hello, I need to upgrade my current home NAS (Synology DS210j) as it is not powerful for my current needs. I primarily use the NAS for streaming movies and storing photos. I was looking at a QNAP 253A, 251A, or 251+. I am not a power user and the NAS is for a household with two adults and one child so it does not many devices will be accessing it at once. What would you recommend? Regards,
16/02/2017 | Smith
Thank you for your enquiry IP
Of those three and based on your requirements, I would recommend the TS-251+.With excellent performance and stability, upgrade options for years down the line when needed, HDMI and remote control included so you can also access media directly (so no streaming or the lag that can come if someone is eating up all the bandwidth!) .
This NAS will handle everything from Plex, to Kodi (though you will need to install it manually), to Surveillance, virtual machines, file servers, Mac-to-windows migration, 3rd party cloud access and more! You can find it here - https://www.span.com/product/Qnap-Desktop-NAS-TS-251+-2G-2-Bay-RAID-0-1-2GB-RAM-~51037
P.s. I also see it is the lowest price! BARGAIN!
Thank you for visiting SPAN.COM.

as much as i agree with your conclusion about the 251 being the better in terms of hardware, qnap ios apps are absolutely shocking and show little signs of improving and ive owned a number of each brands on test. What the Synology losses in performance it in my opinion more than makes up in day to day use.

Perfect 2bay media nas for home
25/05/2016 | Greg
Yet again what a great review, before I started to watch this and the other reviews I wanted to buy the Synology DS716+, now I'm convinced I should go for the Qnap TS-253A-G4. Mainly for the HDMI option and the remote. Thanks again for the reviews.

I am in need of a NAS and thought the qnap ts-251 was the one for me, but then saw that the 251+. I watch alot of movies in all kind of different kinds of formats and transcoding should be quick. which would you recommend?
09/02/2016 | Will Guzman-Lopez
Great video!! I'm thinking of getting a Qnap TS-251+ and wondering if 2gb ram is enough to play on plex apple tv 4 or should i go for the 8gb?
23/11/2015 | Jeff Gustafsson
If you are going to chiefly be using 4K NAS, I would recommend the upgrade to the 8GB DDR3 Memory model. Those files are going to be quite substantial and you will thank your lucky stars early on to have their excess memory in place. Doubley so if you intend to access files in real-time whilst you and someone else is accessing the sytem at the same time.
SPAN.COM tech team
Would you like to tell us about a lower price for TS-251+-8G?Link to a TS-251+-8G review page Can I use this for a Plex Media Server? More importantly can it transcode 1080p as a Plex NAS server? If not which unit would you recommend?
