The TS-453B features an all-new design with a sliding cover. The tool-less 3.5” hard drive installation makes it easier for users to set up and maintain the TS-453B. The OLED front panel displays system information (including temperatures, fan speed, and the capacity of hard drives, volumes and LUN) allowing you to quickly view the overall system status. Dust-proof capacitive touch buttons allow you to easily wake up the screen, change network IP settings and host password or even restart and shut down the system.
Directly access files with USB-C QuickAccess
The TS-453B features an innovative USB-C QuickAccess port that allows you to complete the first-time installation and setup of your TS-453B without requiring network connectivity. The files and data stored on the TS-453B can also be directly accessed by using Qfinder Pro* and a USB Type-C cable**. You can also assign access rights to users for different folders to prevent unauthorized access to important files.
Data backup, recovery, and synchronization
QNAP Hybrid Backup Sync provides a well-rounded solution for data backup, file synchronization and disaster recovery. With Hybrid Backup Sync, you can easily and securely backup data from your NAS to several local, remote and cloud storage spaces. In the event of system crashes or critical hardware failure, you can quickly restore data from these storage spaces, minimizing downtime and reducing overall loss. Hybrid Backup Sync also takes advantage of cloud storage for one-way sync of your data to cloud storage through RTRR, Rsync, FTP, SMB protocol, or two-way sync your NAS with remote NAS/cloud services.
Share and sync files across devices
The TS-453B supports SMB, NFS and AFP, allowing you to quickly share files to Windows®, Mac®, and Linux®/UNIX® devices. With QNAP's Qsync utility, the TS-453B becomes a safe data center for file synchronization with huge storage potential. Any file uploaded to TS-453B can be synchronized to all the linked devices such as computers, laptops and mobile devices. You can also sync shared folders to increase the flexibility of collaboration and file sharing. The SDEX card slot makes it easier to directly access and back up files stored on them, and the new exFAT driver (optional purchase, sold separately) provides compatibility with newer, faster SD cards.

TS-453B-8G. Considering this to use for small office/home, for BU, file access also remote, photo and video/4k storage. Just one person. What is the speed on the quick access USB-C port, which I wish to use as NAD from Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro. Which cable should I use, is it included in the package, or where can I buy and do you have a 2 meter cable? Or am I better configuring with the USB 3.1 10 Gbps card in order to get faster throughput? Will start with 2@ 6TB later extend to RAID 5 with additional discs as required. Would appreciate your advise. Regards, David, email@example.com Edinburgh

The Ts-453B has a standard USB 3.0 USB and a Type C (3.0). You are able to add a card (10gb/M.2 SSD/USB 3.1) If you already have TB3 Mac then I would suggest looking at the Thunderbolt NAS's https://www.span.com/category/Qnap-Thunderbolt-NAS~3008/interface22=4
If you would like some assistance in choosing the right unit for your needs, please do not hesitate in contacting our Sales team who can put together a quote for you and talk through everything you need.SPAN.COM tech team
Hello Team Span, I'm new to NAS... Would I be able to edit the video in real-time by directly attaching the use cable on the front panel..? Or is that port only for accessing & transferring the files... I'm a Mac user & use Adobe suite & Davinci Resolve. Thanks in advance!
15/09/2017 | Max
You can look at the 73 or 82 series Qnap's - but using them to work directly on video is not advisable - Yes, these unit allow you to access them directly through USB or Thunderbolt but this does not mean you will have the access speeds to keep up with real-time video editing. A NAS allows for ease of access to your DATA and allows you to manage it in one place. If you want speed the stay with a TB2/3 DAS and then back it up to the NAS.

Hello: I live in Canada and I am considering acquiring a Qnap ts 453 b nas and I have a few questions I hope you can answer: May I populate the nas with 8 or 10 tb hard drives? What cable should I order (model number and it’s cost) to connect my pc via the USB - 3.0 to the Nas front quick USB – C? What UPS would you recommend I purchase that best suits this Nas? Thanks, Rob
24/08/2017 | firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes you can use 8/10TB drives in this unit (we recommend the WD Reds), Type C cables are available, Please contact one of our sales team to discuss your setup and put together a quote for you

Great review thank you. I have two questions: (1) I'm assuming SSD would give better overall performance loaded into the bays (as opposed to Seagate Ironwolf that I am seeing advertised elsewhere), could you confirm SSD's would be the right choice and if so, do you have a top three I could use please (primary use 4K media streaming and maybe docker)? (2) Is the two bay any different at all from the 4-bay except more bays?
27/06/2017 | Simon B
Yes SSD would give you better all-round performance but as it stands SSD's are much more expensive the HDD's - as you plan to use this in a NAS environment the full speed of the SSD's maybe slower as you will be limited by the Network - if you want true speed then stick with DAS. If capacity is not too important then SSD will be a great choice
The 253b and 453b are the same spec - just bays and memory are differentSPAN.COM tech team
I am loving this direct attach functionality! And I can even add M.2 SSD for caching. But that is probably more for virtual machines.

Would you like to tell us about a lower price for ?Link to a review page Hello, i wonder why you have given the ts-453b mini a 9 in performance, but this one an 8? SInce both devices use the same cpu? Or is there somehting else who makes the mini faster? Sincerly yours Fredrik
25/04/2017 | Fredrik
That is a very valid point. The reason for this is two fold. First off that the mini series device was reviewed when the J Series CPU was new and unparralelled and scoring higher on CPU benchmark than the Braswell CPU in the A series and serverd more as a comparison score at the time. 2nd reason is more directed towards and regarding the lower score on the
TS-453B. Now the 453B is almost released, the Intel J chip has been installed in more NAS devices and alongwith it's strengths we have had more time to gauge it against other chips (like the Pentium featured in the DS916+ from Synology) and these recent comparisons have resulted in us giving it an 8. In actual fact our scoring system should be more decimal really, as we should have given the BMini a 8.8 and the 453B an 8.5. I will take this up with the website team and see if improvements are possible. Otherwise, Both of these NAS devices are fantastic devices with a slight edge in almost all other areas in terms of features and functionality to the TS-453B
Thank you for your question.
