High Availability - Automatic Failover Ensuring business continuity
Uninterrupted availability is a critical goal for all businesses. the ioSafe 1515+ supports Synology High Availability (SHA) technology which combines an active and passive server into one cluster, the former always mirrored to the latter. The Heartbeat connection detects regular "heartbeats" between the two servers. If the main server encounters unexpected downtime, the passive server immediately takes over. With multiple LAN ports, the ioSafe 1515+ also ensures redundancy in the event of unexpected network failure.

Increase business productivity with cloud solutions
With comprehensive cloud solutions, the ioSafe 1515+ lets you create your own cloud easily. Cloud Station is the perfect package to sync files across multiple devices with the benefit of better privacy for important data. Files can be edited in offline mode and later synced to Cloud Station, which retains up to 32 versions to avoid file overwriting. With mobile app DS cloud, any change made to a file is automatically synced to your smartphones and tablets. For distributed enterprise, Synology's 2-way sync between different DiskStations ensures employees at different locations share the same information in real-time. IT administrators can customize synchronization rules, such as avoiding syncing large files to optimize bandwidth usage.

Secure your data
The ioSafe 1515+ provides share-level AES 256-bit encryption to block off unauthorized access attempts. Once you create and encrypt a shared folder, people without the encryption key will not be able to use the encrypted data even if they remove the hard drives from your the ioSafe 1515+ and mount it on their device. 2-Step verification gives an extra layer of protection as 6-digit one-time code sending to your mobile device is required for login. In addition, the ioSafe 1515+ provides other security add-ons, such as IP block & allow list, Antivirus packages, firewall, and DoS attack prevention. These enhancements ensures a secure DSM environment.

In the unlikely event of damage to hard disks, ioSafe will provide clean room forensic data recovery services, with the highest recovery success rate in the industry. Your data privacy is protected with a secure data recovery process which undergoes an SOC 2 Type II Audit annually.

Quad-core CPU for blazing-fast performance
The ioSafe 1515+ is powered by a quad-core CPU running at 2.4 GHz. Combined with 2GB of DDR3 RAM (expandable to 6GB), it delivers blazing-fast performance over 450.77 MB/s reading and 396.5 MB/s writing. That much power makes it easy for the ioSafe 1515+ to multitask and provide consistently high throughput to all connected clients. Using Link Aggregation, all four gigabit connections can be bonded together for maximum throughput or used separately to meter access.

Easy installation, hassle-free maintenance
Easy installation and hot-swappable hard drive support ensures easy maintenance and continuous service uptime should a hard drive need replacement. In addition, the ioSafe 1515+ incorporates a passive cooling CPU design to reduce dependency on the dedicated processor cooling fan, thus mitigating this critical point of failure. When the system detects a primary cooling fan failure, the built-in redundancy mechanism ensures continuous operation until the replacement fan arrives which can be replaced in the field.

Fast hardware-based encrypted data transmission with AES-NI
Encrypting data is essential to a healthy security policy. Equipped with a dedicated hardware encryption engine, the ioSafe 1515+ is the ideal digital locker for sensitive data; files and folders are encrypted on the fly without any perceived performance loss. The ioSafe 1515+ delivers encrypted data transmission speeds over 448.71 MB/s reading and 191.12 MB/s writing. Perfect for HIPPA, SOX or other compliance driven environments, 256-bit AES encryption is the industry standard for any data that might be exposed during transit or accessible online.
Quad LAN ports for failover and Link Aggregation support
Equipped with four Ethernet ports featuring failover and Link Aggregation support, the ioSafe 1515+ ensures continual network uptime even if LAN connection malfunction occurs on one port, reducing the chance of service disruption and costly downtime. Link Aggregation improves connection speeds beyond the limits of a single network cable or port.

Robust scalability up to 90TB
As your data storage needs grow, the ioSafe 1515+ can be connected to dedicated DX513 expansion units for additional storage on the fly, growing capacity with minimal effort. With two DX513 expansion units connected through dual locking screw post eSATA connectors, raw capacity can be as high as 90TBs.
USB 3.0 and eSATA ensure speedy transfers to external storage
The ioSafe 1515+ boasts USB 3.0 and eSATA ports to connect to various kinds of external storage devices, while ensuring fast and efficient file transfer speeds. Support for USB 3.0 offers connectivity to WiFi wireless dongles, printers as well as external hard drives to enable transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps (about 10 times faster than USB 2.0).

Award winning OS - Synology DiskStation Manager
Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) is a sleek, browser-based operating system running on every ioSafe NAS, which makes managing your ioSafe NAS a breeze. Featuring an intuitive user interface, DSM makes accessing and sharing your data smarter and simpler. Synology's Package Center lets you download and install useful add-on packages designed specifically for individual or business needs, meaning you can enjoy more entertainment in your life or better productivity at work.

Fit into business environments easily
With the support of Windows AD, LDAP, and Domain Trust, the ioSafe 1515+ enables seamless account integration. The User Home feature can automatically create a "home" folder for every user account to minimize the administrator's effort in repeatedly creating "home" folders for all accounts. Windows ACL support on the ioSafe 1515+ allows IT administrators to fine tune access controls and set up privileges to files and folders on the ioSafe 1515+ through the familiar Windows user interface. With compatibility for major protocols, the ioSafe 1515+ can eliminate server configuration overhead and enhance IT administrators’ efficiency.

Seamless storage solution for virtualized environments

The ioSafe 1515+ provides seamless storage solutions for virtualized environments, including VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft Hyper-V. With VMware vSphere® 5 & VAAI integration, the ioSafe 1515+ helps offload specific storage operations and optimizes computation power in VMware environments. Windows ODX support speeds up data manipulation as the data transfer is offloaded. iSCSI also lets SMB users consolidate storage into data center storage arrays while providing hosts with the illusion of locally-attached disks.

Optimize storage management
With Synology's Storage Manager, the ioSafe 1515+ allows for flexible storage deployment and utilization. You can optimize RAID configuration with Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) while providing redundant data protection. Other features such as multiple volumes on single RAID and Global Hot Spare also greatly enhance management efficiency and fit deployment of any kind.

CMS (Central Management System) Single Pane of Glass management for all NAS servers
For enterprises with more than one Synology-based NAS server, CMS offers the flexibility and convenience for IT administrators to manage all of them from a single point of entry. Through a simple interface, you can obtain a clear overview on resource consumption and logs, helping you identify any issue right away. With group policies, CMS can do much more for your daily tasks. Once a NAS joins a group, it will automatically adopt its rules and behave as intended, without extra configuration.

All-in-one server
The ioSafe 1515+ can replace several pieces of network hardware and serve as your multi-function server. Directory Server provides LDAP service, while DNS and DHCP packages allow you to host a domain name server and automate network IP assignment at no extra cost. With only one the ioSafe 1515+, you can do more than you imagine - host up to 30 websites with Web Station, safeguard the office environments with Surveillance Station, send and receive mail using your own email domain with Mail Station, share printing capability with Printer Server, make the ioSafe 1515+ act as a VPN server to access company's resources remotely, and more. the ioSafe 1515+ helps your company gain a competitive edge.

Effective backup solution
The ioSafe 1515+ can serve as a centralized backup target. PC users can back up their data to the ioSafe 1515+ using Windows Backup, while Mac OS X users enjoy native Apple® Time Machine integration. You can also back up data and applications from your DioSafe 1515+ to another DiskStation, rsync servers, external drives, or even Amazon® S3 and Glacier cloud service. "Backup & Replication" allows you to schedule backup tasks and restore the server to any particular point in time, while minimizing storage consumption and processing time by saving only the specific data block that has been changed between versions. With Cloud Station, files on your PC can be backed up to DS1515+. Whenever you modify a file, the changes are backed up on the ioSafe 1515+ automatically.

Is there a difference between network drive, backup drive, network hard drive and nas drive?

There is no physical difference between a network drive, backup drive, network hard drive and NAS drive, the MAIN difference is about the use of the equipment. So:

A Network Drive is a area on storage that is useable to anyone on the network and will be visible to the device you are using if you have the correct login/password.

A Backup Drive is a storage device is a area of NAS or DAS storage that is used JUST for backups and only for writing, not reading - it backs up one or multiple devices on a regular basis.

A Network Hard Drive is the same as a network drive, but instead of a portion of online storage that is network/internet accessible, it is an entire disk drive. Much larger and often includes a RAID drive acting as a fall-back.

A NAS Drive can do all of the above. It can be set up to be a backup drive for all your devices, it can make either a portion or ALL of the storage available over the internet or network, it can do all of these at the same time and can give you much, much more access options thanks to NAS software from the likes of QNAP, Synology, WD, Asustor, Buffalo and Drobo.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is a server at home?

A server at home is a network attached storage device (NAS) that is like a computer, but with the emphasis on storage space. They can be purchased for as little as £100 and mean all your data can be accessed, used and backed up to and from overt the internet or your home network (WiFi etc). Bigger and more expensive home servers can do more, such as virtual computers, surveillance recording and multimedia access.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is meant by diskless NAS?

A Diskless NAS means that it a network storage device that is sold without any Hard Drives inside. Many NAS Brands like WD and Buffalo will only sell their NAS server devices with Drives already installed - this can often increase the price significantly, as well as limit the Hard Drives you want to install. A diskless NAS is a device that you can choose which drives, how many and the capacity you want and install them yourself, for a more bespoke NAS storage device. Installing the Hard Drives is very easy and you can often save a lot of time and improve your long term storage by choosing a diskless NAS and selecting the drives yourself.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is a NAS external hard drive?

A NAS external Hard Drive is an external storage device that, unlike USB 3.0 and eSATA external Hard Drives, is accessed used the internet or your home network. So that means you can access the contents (DATA) of the NAS on your iPhone, iPad, Smart TV, PS4, XBOX One, Sonos Sound System, Bose system, Laptop, Smartphone and pretty much any DLNA enabled device without having to connect to it with a cable. Meaning you do not need to carry duplicates of all your data on all your devices, but can have one central NAS storage devices that all the other devices can access.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
How do I connect to my NAS remotely?

You can connect to your NAS server remotely with the mobile applications that are free with your NAS Brand manufacturer for iOS and Android. Alternatively you can use a number of desktop applications from the big brands QNAP and Synology NAS to access your device remotely. Lastly you can create a network and internet accessible drive with iSCSI and then setup software (Virtual Machine, backup, Surveillance and more) on your Mac or Windows machine to read and write to the NAS remotely.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is a NAS drive used for?

A NAS drive can be used for the following:

Apple Time Machine Backups
Synchronized Backups of Windows and Android devices
A Plex Media Server
DLNA Media Server
Download Server
Printer Server
Virtual Machine Deployment
Email Server
CRM and/or CMS System
A CCTV IP Camera Enabled Surveillance station for your home or office
File Server
and more...

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What are the different types of RAID?

The most popular and recommended RAID levels for a 2-Bay NAS and 4-Bay NAS from Synology and QNAP are:

RAID 0 - Meaning all drive storage is pooled together into 1 big drive - MOST UNSAFE
RAID 1 - Drives are duplicated so you lose half the available storage, but have a complete, up to the second copy of your data
RAID 5 - You lose 1 drive of data storage space, but data is spread across all the available drives and a small piece of information called PARITY is created each wave/stripe that makes a blueprint of all the data
RAID 6 - Same as above, but it removes two drives worth of space and protects you against the loss of two Hard Drives

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is a RAID hard drive?

A RAID Hard drive is a Hard Disk Drive that is designed to be used in a RAID configuration - in simple terms it is a drive that can be installed with multiple other drives of the same type (such as WD Red RAID Drives, WD Purples Surveillance RAID Drives and Seagate Ironwolf NAS RAID Drives). These are designed to be on for long periods of time and for handling data that is shared and/or duplicated across multiple drives at once - constructed with better vibration, head and access controls). Most other drives are designed to work on their own.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is raid on a NAS?

RAID on a NAS is a means to protect yourself from losing your data due to hard drive failure. Hard Drives are the 2nd most vulnerable area of a NAS device and if a drive fails and you do not have a copy of the data elsewhere, you will most likely lose it all. RAID gives you a safety net (called REDUNDANCY) which means you can afford to lose 1, 2 or even 3 hard drives with the right configuration. The most common options are:

What is a personal cloud storage device?

A personal Cloud storage device is a piece of Hardware, Like a NAS, that gives you the access, freedom, speed and utility of popular 3rd party cloud providers such as Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, Amazon S3 and more. However unlike those providers that hold your data on a server farm hundreds or thousands of miles away, where you it can be broken into, a Personal Cloud (NAS) lives in your home/office and can be protected with both bespoke AES-256bit encryption, individual login credentials and if the worst case scenario, can be simply unplugged from the network/internet.

It is also considerably cheaper in the long term.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
How do you connect to a NAS?

You can connect to a device in several ways:

- You can connect to a NAS via your home network as long as it is connected to the same router/switch that your other devices are connected to, via cable or over Wi-Fi (the devices, not the NAS)

- You can connect over the internet using the NAS manufacturer’s respective software on desktop or mobile platforms for Mac, Windows and Android devices

- You can also access the data as a network drive (where the location of the drive with be an IP - 192.168. etc.) and then the drive can be read and written to as needed

Thank you

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
How does a NAS device work?

Excellent Question. A NAS devices like a computer that is dedicated to storing data that is made accessible across all your internet enabled devices. It connects to your home network (in simple terms, the internet connected network in your home or office) and makes the data that is store on it accessible. You can also access the data from outside the phone via WiFi at hotspots and other buildings, or via your mobile 3G or 4G internet connection.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
Do you really need a NAS?

If you have data spread across multiple devices without a single backup location, then YES, you really do need a NAS drive. As it will make backing up with multiple devices easier, more automated and reliable.

If you are a business with large amounts of data that needs to be accessible quickly, across multiple machines or outside your office environment for off-site staff or clients, then YES you needs a NAS.

If you want your internet accessible data to be 100% inaccessible when needed (for security) and are considering a Cloud provider or a NAS, BUY A NAS!!! It is cheaper in the long run and can have individual and bespoke security measures.

16/11/2017 | Popular Question | GB Flag |
What is a NAS drives for home?
